...more metal cages. Our friends in high places at Medtronic tell us that Sofamor Danek is considered to be Medtronic's best acquisition-ever. A worthy competitor calls the boys in Memphis “the machine.” Indeed. No doubt Mike DeMane's “threat” to replace 75% of his product line with new, better products over the course of the coming 2-3 years has to be sobering news to all of Sofamor Danek's competitors. And then the news came last week that the FDA has approved InFuse' (Sofamor Danek's bone growth factor) for additional metal cages. Of course, we can't help but wonder if surgeons weren't already using it in those cages – off label. What difference would it make? The real question, we think, is when will InFuse' be approved for use with cellular based implants like Allograft bone dowels.
