Charite Artificial Disc FDA Approval Expected Mid-2005 – according to DePuy Spine BY ROBIN R. YOUNG CFA, JANUARY 26, 2004

In last week's JNJ conference call with analysts, management stated that its DePuy Spine division was expecting FDA approval for the Charité Artificial Disc in the United States by the first half of 2005. The Charité Disc, which was obtained as part of the Link Spine acquisition in 2002, is already approved in over 30 countries outside the United States. Could the Charité be approved sooner? Because the data is so strong, the possibility of earlier approval is a realistic one, we think. This product offers a revolutionary advance to current therapy, which is direct fusion of a patient's spine.
