Behind-the-scenes... BY LAING RIKKERS, JULY 14, 2005

This week HealthpointCapital had lots of private equity activity, as evidenced by the flurry of press releases just below. You may be missing the regular flow of orthopedic news and commentary on the blog, and/or wondering what our press releases are doing there. We thought a little behind-the-scenes explanation would help.

Private equity deals are job #1 here. The work of acquiring and improving our portfolio companies has its peaks, and that occasionally diminishes our published output. Research (basically, discussing the industry here on the blog) is important to us too, and you'll see the flow of news items get back to normal soon.

While we're on that topic of the blog... We chose this format because we believe a free, daily exchange of ideas is good for the business of orthopedics. We can learn from one another and build upon the knowledge to develop better products and improve patient outcomes. We have received numerous insightful comments from readers and welcome your opinions and additions. There is no other place in the orthopedic industry where on open dialog is taking place, so keep letting us know what you are thinking.

As for the press releases, we publish them on the blog because we think they're newsworthy, and it's a good way to get the message out. For that matter, if you have something you think we should write about or "cover" like a magazine, let us know. The same rules apply for you. We'll write about orthopedic issues if 1) they are interesting from a clinical or business prespective; 2) we are not financially conflicted when writing about them; 3) we can be impartial in our coverage.
