NuVasive Files IDE for Cervical Nucleus
BY JOHN MCCORMICK, OCTOBER 24, 2005
Only two months ago NuVasive, Inc. acquired the NeoDisc cervical disc nucleus technology from Pearsalls and just this morning NuVasive announced that it has filed an IDE for the device. Back when they bought the NeoDisc, they said this was a 4Q:05 event so NuVasive is right on schedule.
NeoDisc is a nucleus-like replacement device made out of a mesh designed to preserve motion in the cervical region of the spine and fills the gap between pre-surgical treatment and Total Disc Replacement (TDR) or spinal fusion. It is designed to preserve motion in the cervical region of the spine and is intended to treat patients earlier in the degenerative cascade. The Company believes the Neodisc could be commercially available in Europe as early as 2007 and commercialized in the U.S. in the 2010 timeframe.
