Osteotech Hosts Webcast
BY DAVID KRESSEL, FEBRUARY 1, 2006
This morning, Osteotech hosted a webcast to discuss its donor strategy and new product plans. It was the first major appearance by Sam Owusu-Akyaw as CEO.
On the tissue donor side, there were two main points:
*Their supply contract with MTF expires in 2008, by which point they will need to have shifted their purchasing to another tissue bank.
*They are expanding efforts to grow internationally, so they will collect more donor tissue internationally as well.
On the new product side, they are banking on the following:
*Enhanced Grafton, which is 4x as active as the current Grafton DBM and will be positioned to compete with BMP (though no head-to-head trials are planned).
*Xpanse bone insert, which is placed in an interbody spacer to improve fusion.
*Plexus Interbody Graft, which is a DBM/resorbable polymer interbody spacer which would be resorbed and replaced over time with bone.
They also said that revenue for 4Q05 would be $22 million and that they wouldn't provide guidance for 2006 because of the uncertainty they see in their business.
The webcast is available on replay until February 10.
