BioMimetics Takes a Swing at Wrist and Other Extremity Fractures BY DAVID KRESSEL, MARCH 20, 2006

On the heels of BioMimetics' approval for GEM 21S for dental use, they initiated one clinical study on GEM OS1 for distal radius fractures and two on GEM OS1 in foot and ankle fusion.

GEM OS1 is a combination of recombinant human Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (rhPDGF) on a Beta Tricalcium Phosphate matrix. A similar product by BioMimetics called GEM 21S was shown to significantly speed regeneration in dental applications and its PMA was approved by the FDA last year.

BioMimetics recently filed to raise $50 million through an IPO. Its investors include Burrill, Novo, MB Ventures, Interwest Partners, CMEA, Holden Capital, Noro-Moseley, PTV Sciences and Axiom.
