Biomet Sports Medicine to do License Deal

Today Biomet Sports Medicine announced that it is doing a deal with Marc Tec LLC to acquire access to minimally invasive sports medicine and arthroscopic technologies. Marc Tec is an affiliate of Bonutti Technologies and the deal includes over 45 patents.
Biomet will also be working with inventor and orthopedic surgeon Peter Bonutti, M.D., the founder of Bonutti Technologies and Marc Tec in order to develop new products in meniscal repair and suture anchors. Notably, Dr. Bonutti works extensively in the industry with companies such as Kyphon, Tyco and unrelated work with a major Biomet competitor: Stryker.
A patent search on Marc Tec revealed how Marc Tec and Dr. Bonutti have been active in sports medicine, particularly with patents on surgical approaches. These include mechanisms for stretching tissue around a joint of a patient between first and second pivotable body portions, surgical drapes, blood centerfuging and the like.
