AstraTech to Acquire Atlantis Components BY DAVID KRESSEL, OCTOBER 11, 2007

Sweden-based AstraTech, AstraZeneca's medical device subsidiary, announced it will acquire Atlantis Components for $71m. Atlantis, a Cambridge, MA-based producer of custom milled dental implant abutments, complements Astra's dental implant business by allowing Astra to offer a broader portfolio of restorative products.

This acquisition is interesting for two reasons. First, Atlantis has collaborated with a number of the implant companies on a nonexclusive basis, and according to Atlantis will continue to in the future, so it is surprising to see Atlantis acquired by any of the implant companies. Second, Zimmer Dental has been Atlantis' closest partner over the past five years, so most people expected Atlantis to be sold to Zimmer, if at all.

Shareholders of Atlantis include American Bailey Ventures, Danaher, VIMAC Ventures, Signet Healthcare Partners, CID Equity Capital, Heron Capital and Ironwood.
