Periodontists' Meeting Highlights
BY DAVID KRESSEL, NOVEMBER 5, 2007
We attended the American Academy of Periodontology meeting this past week in Washington DC. Although there weren't any revolutionary introductions, we noticed a few trends from the exhibit hall.
*Straumann featured its first bone level implant and the etkon system. It is still unclear how they intend to bring etkon to market, but it seems the focus will be on dentists' offices.
*Nobel's booth focused on the fact that it offers both implants and restorative products.
*Case presentation and acceptance software, which explains implant surgery and other procedures via computer animations, was generating good interest.
*Cone Beam CT continues to attract attention, and new entrants continue to pop up, usually from Asia.
We will attend the upcoming American Academy of Implant Dentistry, so look for our report on that meeting as well.
