We just returned from the Greater New York Dental Meeting, held at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan every year, on the weekend and week following Thanksgiving. Unlike most of the dental meetings we attend, which focus heavily on dental implant therapy, the GNYDM is one of the broadest meetings of the year, with vendors that range from implant leader Nobel Biocare to consumer dental product leader Colgate to office equipment vendor Sirona, even to private label lip balm company Lips, Inc.
The most interesting booths we saw were technology related. We finally saw the D4D intraoral scanner and milling system from E4D at the Henry Schein booth. It looked like a capable system, though we were told it is still a few months away from a full roll-out. Cadent also had a busy booth where attendees learned about the new iTero system. Sirona appeared to be more focused on its digital radiography and cone beam CT scanners than its CEREC system. And as we've mentioned before, there continues to be an influx of cone beam CT companies, which we see as a positive for implant dentistry because it will make scanners less expensive and make using them the standard of care.
