Legislation
The Senate voted 60-39 last week to pass the chamber's healthcare reform legislation. Included in the legislation is a change to the timeline of the medical device tax: the tax will be implemented in 2011, later than the original 2010 date. Additionally, the chamber elected not to broaden a small business exclusion. Now the House and Senate will reconcile their versions of the bill, with both chambers to vote on the final legislation.
Clinical
A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that arthroscopic shoulder surgery offered pain and function benefits for patients who had a failed rotator cuff repair. 61 patients participated in the study, which concluded that the second arthroscopic procedure significantly improved pain relief and shoulder function at one to two years.
