Senate Passes One-Month Doc Fix BY LAUREN UZDIENSKI, NOVEMBER 22, 2010

The looming 23% cut to Medicare reimbursement was delayed by the Senate last week - for one month. The pay reductions, originally set to go into effect on December 1, have been granted small reprieves all year.

The one-month patch still has to pass the House. That chamber is currently out on Thanksgiving break, but they return on November 29th, giving them a narrow window in which to pass the legislation. If they miss the deadline, CMS will usually announce that no claims will be processed until the bill is passed.

The AMA put out a press release praising the Senate vote and urging Congress to take up a long-term solution.
