This morning Zimmer announced that it has finalized its acquisition of China-based Beijing Montagne, a mainland company that develops large joint implants and instruments. more
Medtronic announced this morning that Chairman and CEO Bill Hawkins would retire on April 29, 2011, the end of the company's fiscal year. No successor has been named, and the company said Mr. Hawkins would stay with Medtronic through the transition period. An external search has been initiated. more
Orthofix announced yesterday that a lawsuit brought by NuVasive over IP relating to Orthofix's Trinity Evolution has been settled for an undisclosed amount. more

Cephalon has entered into a strategic alliance with Mesoblast, paying $130 million up front and up to an additional $1.7 billion in milestone payments related to stem cell applications for degenerative conditions of the cardiovascular and central nervous systems. more
Politico reports that Senate leaders have reached a "tentative" agreement for a one-year patch on the 23% cuts to Medicare reimbursement that are scheduled to go into effect on January 1. The deal would require a change to the healthcare reform plan's tax subsidy program, which will be implemented after 2014. more
Stryker announced yesterday that they would sell their OP-1 family of products to Olympus for $60 million. These products include the OP-1 Implant, OP-1 Putty, Opgenra and Osigraft, all of which are intended for use in orthopedic applications and are thought to generate annual sales of around $94 million. more
