Billion-Dollar Tax Credit to Support Research at Small Biotechs BY SANDER DUNCAN, JUNE 1, 2010

Seeking to spur innovative biomedical research by small firms, the IRS and HHS recently announced guidelines for a $1 billion "Therapeutic Discovery Tax Credit." Effective immediately, the tax credit covers up to 50% of firms' investments in qualifying research initiatives made in 2009 and 2010, with up to $5 million available to each company. Firms must have 250 employees or fewer to be eligible, and newer firms that have yet to turn a profit can take the credit as a cash grant instead. more
